Hot Shots: Lil’ Kim Takes Control In Zimbabwe

The state of her career may be out of control, but that didn’t stop Lil Kim from delivering a commanding performance at Zimbabwe’s ZarFest.

Channeling her inner Cobra Commander, the former jail bird treated fans to renditions of some of her much loved music from yester-year at the music festival which also saw performances by Ciara and Timbaland.

The ‘How Many Licks‘ performer’s feud with Pop sensation Nicki Minaj became a hot topic again this week when the lyricist Eve weighed in on the situation just days ago.

U.S. Warns Of Zombie Apocalypse

There are all kinds of emergencies out there that we can prepare for. Take a zombie apocalypse for example. That’s right, I said z-o-m-b-i-e a-p-o-c-a-l-y-p-s-e. You may laugh now, but when it happens you’ll be happy you read this, and hey, maybe you’ll even learn a thing or two about how to prepare for a real emergency.
A Brief History of Zombies

We’ve all seen at least one movie about flesh-eating zombies taking over (my personal favorite is Resident Evil), but where do zombies come from and why do they love eating brains so much? The word zombie comes from Haitian and New Orleans voodoo origins. Although its meaning has changed slightly over the years, it refers to a human corpse mysteriously reanimated to serve the undead. Through ancient voodoo and folk-lore traditions, shows like the Walking Dead were born.

In movies, shows, and literature, zombies are often depicted as being created by an infectious virus, which is passed on via bites and contact with bodily fluids. Harvard psychiatrist Steven Schoolman wrote a (fictional) medical paper on the zombies presented in Night of the Living Dead and refers to the condition as Ataxic Neurodegenerative Satiety Deficiency Syndrome caused by an infectious agent. The Zombie Survival Guide identifies the cause of zombies as a virus called solanum. Other zombie origins shown in films include radiation from a destroyedNASA Venus probe (as in Night of the Living Dead), as well as mutations of existing conditions such as prions, mad-cow disease, measles and rabies.

The rise of zombies in pop culture has given credence to the idea that a zombie apocalypse could happen. In such a scenario zombies would take over entire countries, roaming city streets eating anything living that got in their way. The proliferation of this idea has led many people to wonder “How do I prepare for a zombie apocalypse?”

Well, we’re here to answer that question for you, and hopefully share a few tips about preparing for real emergencies too!

Bloody Sunday as Israel murder 21, and injure over 200 people in Palestine, Syria, and Lebanon

Today can only be described as “Bloody Sunday” following the deaths of 21 people, and over 200 injured by Israeli forces. 10 people are reported dead in Lebanon, 8 in Syria, 2 in Gaza, and 1 in the occupied West Bank.

Tens of thousands of Palestinians marked the Nakba anniversary by marching to the borders with Israel in Palestine, Syria and Lebanon. They were demanding their right of return to the homes and lands they were force to flee in 1948.

In Gaza, thousands of people marched to the Erez border crossing where they were met by a barage of bullets and shells fired from tanks. A 17 year old was killed, and 60 were injured. Most of those injured were children, with wounds to their legs. Another man was killed later in the eastern area of Gaza. Currently, F16′s, Apache Helicopters and unmaned drones are roaming the skies above the besieged area.

In Lebanon, thousands marched to Maroun el Rass, the border with Israel. Demonstrators were fired upon by Israeli troops leaving 10 dead and 70 injured, according to local reports. Thousands protested for hours before dispersing peacefully.

In Syria, Palestinian refugees and Syrians crossed into the occupied Golan Heights, and like in Lebaonon and Gaza, they too met a hail of bullets. Local reports say 8 people have been killed and 50 injured. The Syrian Foreign Ministry called Israels actions “criminal activity”, and called on the interntional community to hold Israel responsible for the killing.

In the occupied West Bank, demonstrators faced rubber bullets, live fire, and deadly tear gas as they commerated the Nakba. Unconfirmed reports say 1 man has been killed, and close to 100 people injured. Clashes lasted for hours as demonstrators continued to come under attack from Israeli troops.

Across the world, thousands of people have also been remembering the Nakba. In New York, Norman Finkelstein joined thousands of demonstrators, and in Cairo, thousands have been protesting outside the Egyptian embassy. In London, Dublin, Paris, Madrid, Belfast, Amman, Ankara, Istanbul, Gothenburg and many other cities worldwide, thousands have come out to show their support for the Palestinians right to return to their homes and land.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said “We are determined to defend our borders and our sovereignty”.

A spokesman for Hamas in the Gaza Strip, Sami Abu Zuhri, called Sundays murders “a turning point in the Israeli-Arab conflict that proved the Palestinian people and Arabs were committed to ending Israeli occupation.”

Hezbollah condemned the “Israeli aggression on unarmed civilians in Maroun al-Ras and in the Golan, which constitutes a dangerous violation of human rights, and what happened today in Maroun al-Ras and in the Golan is an embodiment of the will of the Palestinian people who are committed to the right of return.”

Mahmoud Abbas, speaking in a telvised interview said, “Their precious blood will not be wasted. It was spilt for the sake of our nation’s freedom.”

Western leaders including Barak Obama, David Cameron, Nicolas Sarkozy, and others has remained silent on the murders.

Hewlett-Packard CEO Leo Apotheker: Slower growth ahead after 'strong quarter'

Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) turned in strong second-quarter earnings today but warned of lower growth this year, due to soft sales of consumer PCs and disruption caused by an earthquake and tsunami in Japan.

HP's earnings announcement came a day earlier than scheduled because of a leaked memo from the Palo Alto company's chief executive.

Though the leaked memo spoke of "a new head count plan," HP CEO Leo Apotheker said in a telephone conference with reporters, "I don't want anyone to read into this that there will be head count reduction across the board."

The memo, he said, reflects "prudent steps" being taken "to manage in the face of headwinds we are seeing, particularly as the result of the Japan crisis and some softness in the consumer PC business."

In the e-mailed memo to top executives of the company, HP's chief warned that the company's head count in the second quarter of 2011 was "unaffordable given the pressures of our business."

Pressed on the contents, Apotheker said "these memos should not be a distraction. "... The first thing I want everyone to clearly understand is we actually delivered a strong quarter."

He said he was "disappointed" in the leak. "I expect these memos to be kept confidential,
Advertisement
and not be circulated around."

Expressing dissatisfaction with the performance of the company's business services efforts, Apotheker announced a reorganization to gain market share. He said HP's services business had been "drifting" toward low growth and low-margin activities, and had missed market opportunities.

HP will invest in that business for long-term growth in market share, he said.

"The forces of the cloud and conductivity are changing the world of technology and creating exciting new opportunities," he said. "Companies need to evolve their strategies aggressively during this technology shift," he said in an earlier conference call with analysts. "That is exactly what we're doing."

While there was weakness in the consumer PC market, Apotheker said, the commercial market remained strong.

The company's tablet PC will debut this summer.

HP's earnings of $2.3 billion, or $1.05 a share, for its second quarter, ending April 30, were above the same quarter last year. The company earned $1.24 a share, and revenue was up 3 percent to $31.63 billion.

But the computer and software giant has reduced expected earnings for the year to $5, which falls below earlier forecasts of $5.20 to $5.28 a share.

It also lowered 2011 revenue guidance slightly, to between $129 billion and $130 billion, and forecast adjusted earnings of $108 a share and revenue between $31.1 billion and $31.3 billion.

Disney Cruise Lines Offers Fun for the Whole Family

Have you heard of the Disney Cruise Line? Here are just some of the thing they offer: live Disney shows, “meet-and-greets” with the Disney characters, children’s clubs and adults-only spots as well. None of those sound good? Okay, fine. How about first-run movies at the theater onboard?

Are your kids looking to get away from their geeky parents? Not a problem. From a Little Mermaid themed daycare to Vibe, a place where 14 to 17 year olds can chill out and listen to music, watch TV or play the latest and greatest video games, kids should be able to find whatever it is they’re looking for, regardless of their age.

I read about the Disney Cruise Line on the Telegraph, and I must say, it sounded quite impressive. I mean, the only thing missing I could think of was Zach and Cody, though as much as Disney offers? I wouldn’t be so quick to rule them out, either.

Each Disney Cruise has roughly 950 employees who represent over 60 nations and you can rest assured that you’ll be well taken care of because there’s a Disney associate for every three passengers. There are several cruise lines from which to choose. The Disney Dream might be a good choice for those of us in the U.S. as it sets sail from Florida. It also offers the AquaDuck waterslide which is billed as the first “water coaster” ever on a cruise ship. It sounds like a blast as it offers those brave enough to partake all kinds of twists and turns as it eventually extends beyond the actual ship itself (whoa) and culminates in a four-deck drop. (I’d recommend that one before lunch, for what it’s worth.)

So would my family and I enjoy such a cruise? Tough to say. I’m certain my 9-year-old would be all about it. She watches a fair amount of the Disney Channel and given all that the cruise lines offer, I bet she’d find real value in it. My wife and I?

While I’d never say never, we’re not really cruise people. We like a little more control over our vacation. Though Disney would offer us the gamut of family-friendly choices, I have a feeling we’d get cabin fever.

Having said that, I’m fully aware that there are many folks who love cruises. If you’re one of them, and you’ve got a big family vacation planned this summer, you should really consider looking into the Disney Cruise Lines. Who knows? You just might wind up having the time of your life. (Assuming you don’t get kidnapped by Captain Hook.)

To learn more, go do DisneyCruise.com. Warning, not exactly super-economical. But, again, if you’re looking to blow the bank on a big family vacation, this just might be worth looking into.

MIke Huckabee Out Of The Running: 'My Heart Says No' On Presidential Bid

Mike Huckabee formally bowed out of the presidential running on Saturday, announcing on his FOX News show that he had decided not to enter the race even as he believed he was a top-tier contender.

"All the factors say go," he said, "but my heart says no."

The former Arkansas governor said that he had concluded that he could raise the necessary funds and build the necessary campaign infrastructure to win the nomination, but that he felt an "inner peace" in contemplating his final decision, which he said was borne out of prayer and meditation.

"I don't expect everyone to understand this, but I'm a believer and a follower of Jesus Christ and that relationship is far more important to me than any political office," he said. "For me the discussion and decision is ultimately not a political one ... it's a spiritual one."

In a bizarre twist, Huckabee's announcement was immediately followed by a surprise appearance from Donald Trump, who praised the decision with a wink towards his own presidential ambitions.

"A lot of people are very happy that he will not be running, especially other candidates," Trump said. "So Mike, enjoy the show, your ratings are terrific, you're making a lot of money, you're building a beautiful house in Florida, good luck."

He made his announcement shortly after a taped recording of him and Ted Nugent playing "Cat Scratch Fever" in an episode that also featured former Saved By The Bell star Mario Lopez, perhaps early indicators that this wasn't the venue for a presidential declaration.

Huckabee was considered one of the most credible challengers for the nomination after a strong performance in 2008 that included an upset win in the Iowa caucuses and a large share of the vote in a number of Southern states. Surveys of Republican voters often showed him leading the 2012 field while national polls indicated he could be competitive against President Obama in a direct matchup.

But despite his loyal following, he gave little indication over the last year he was preparing for a run. Many of his most prominent supporters and aides from 2008 began taking jobs with other presidential candidates in recent months and some, most notably his advisor Ed Rollins, openly predicted he would sit out the contest.

Randy Jackson Catches Heat After Haley Reinhart Drama on “American Idol” Wednesday

When “American Idol” topics have generated vast online buzz following the weekly performance shows, they have almost always concerned the contestants and their song selections.

This time, however, the most-buzzed about subject is judge Randy Jackson, who caught heat for a variety of developments on Wednesday’s intriguing Final Four performance show. As of 10:30PM, Jackson leads the Google Trends chart as the most popular search term online.

Notably fueling online buzz for Jackson is the fact that contestant James Durbin performed Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’”, making multiple mentions of the fact that Jackson used to play bass for the band. While discussing the performance, Jackson said that Journey, along with fellow judge Steven Tyler’s band Aerosmith, ranks as one of the greatest American rock bands of all time. He also said that lead singer Steve Perry, like Steven Tyler, is one of the all-time great rock vocalists. Journey had climbed to number two on the Trends chart.

(Update: In a very rapid change, Jackson and Journey appeared to be off the Trends chart by 11:10PM)

But the buzz was not all for Randy Jackson and James Durbin bonding over the influential Journey song. Another element of interest in Jackson comes from his heated exchanges with Haley Reinhart, who was the only contestant to receive negative feedback after the first round of songs Wednesday.

Reinhart’s take on “Earth Song” garnered criticism from both Jennifer Lopez and Jackson, with Lopez focusing on the ill-advised song selection and Jackson bringing attention to things like Reinhart’s “screaming” throughout the song. The interaction between Jackson and Reinhart escalated, with the two (along with J-Lo, at times) entering into something of a brief, heated, back-and-forth discussion about the performance and song selection.

Later, when asked by Ryan Seacrest who won the first round, Jackson said that it was a tie between Durbin, Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina, delivering a biting blow to Reinhart, the only other singer left in the competition.

Though Reinhart is perceived to have the smallest overall fanbase of the remaining contestants, she is very popular with critics and online commenters, and there was a big degree of outcry over what Haley fans felt was biased judging in that first round.

As with last week, however, the first round criticism built into something positive for round two–all three judges gave Haley a standing ovation for her “I Who Have Nothing.”

Headline Planet’s full review of Wednesday’s performances is due Thursday.

Google Music to stream 20,000 songs for free, launches at I/O later today

It's not quite official but there's little doubt that Google will launch its Google Music service at its big I/O event later today. While the Wall Street Journal couldn't get a Google spokesman to admit it, Peter Kafka over at All Things D got Jamie Rosenberg, Director of Android Product Management, to spill the details a bit early. Google's service will essentially mimic the music locker functionality of Amazon's Cloud service, albeit without the ability to sell songs direct to consumers. Ouch. Unfortunately, Google's plans to launch a more feature-complete service were derailed when discussions with the labels broke down. According to Rosenberg, "A couple of the major labels were less focused on the innovative vision that we put forward, and more interested in an unreasonable and unsustainable set of business terms." So, rather than putting the service on hold, Google will launch its music service with the ability to store up to 20,000 of your own uploaded songs for free which you can then stream over the web to your desktop or Android phone or tablet -- any device that supports Flash (don't worry iOS users, your time will come). Amazon's service, by comparison, offers just 5GB of free storage for about 1,200 songs stored at a mediocre bitrate. Google will also best Amazon with a feature that automatically creates playlists. Google expects to roll out the service to its US users within "weeks" with Music Beta invites going out later today to Verizon Xoom owners (others will be able to sign up at music.google.com). Keep it right here because we'll be bringing you the announcement liv

Google and Sprint respond to Google Voice integration issues

You may recall from yesterday that early adopters were having a variety of issues after activating (or attempting to activate) Sprint's new Google Voice integration feature. Well, a full day has passed, and we've had several calls with GV lead Vincent Paquet as well as Brian Smith, Sprint's director of product development. Both executives have said that their respective companies have been hard at work on resolutions to each of the issues we outlined Thursday night, and some customers we spoke to yesterday are now back online. Jump past the break for a quick summary of what's been fixed, and what remains on the to-do list.

Our primary concern yesterday was a voicemail security bug that inadvertently granted management-level access to people that one user called from the Google Voice web app. Google is not commenting on this vulnerability, but has confirmed that it's not a threat today. The second issue was that some GV customers who were up and running with Sprint integration suddenly found themselves unable to use the service. This issue has been pegged to the removal of an accounting code -- GGLVOICE -- that some Sprint reps have accidentally removed. The carrier is working to prevent this from occurring in the future, and those already affected should soon be able to call in for support. Next up, some international calls were being processed through Sprint, rather than through GV, even after users activated their integration. This has been tied to the accidental removal of the same accounting code, and Google has offered to reimburse affected individuals (see the update on yesterday's post for full details).

Finally, many users -- notably those on personal accounts with corporate discounts -- have been unable to activate GV integration. Sprint has promised a mid-May resolution, and we'll certainly keep you updated. Users with these issues are still being instructed to share their concerns on the Google Voice Forum, which as of now is finally getting the attention it needs. You can also post a comment below, as both companies have been monitoring here, too. Things are looking much better today than they were yesterday, but our position remains unchanged: Unless you've already activated Sprint/Google Voice integration, please stand by until both companies have had a chance to work out these (very significant) kinks. You've been able to hold out this long -- what's another few weeks?

Update: Sprint customers on corporate and government accounts (paid for by your employer) are currently not eligible for integration. Eventually, Sprint will enable integration for some of these companies on a case-by-case basis.

Duckin' Fark

CAP captain, myTransponder co-founder, and friend Rod Rakic happened to be in town this weekend and we made it a point to try to get up in a CAP aircraft for some proficiency work and aircrew activities.

I've flown in the same aircraft with Rod on several occasions. The first was the Cessna Citation Mustang flight during AirVenture Oshkosh 2009 with me in the left seat and Rod in the back. Then Rod flew me in a C-182T Nav III to Marshall, Missouri and back to get some B-2A weapons system trainer time in our logbooks.

But I had not yet flown Rod under circumstances under which I was in the left seat and was in the right seat. Where he could reach the flight controls and make it a fair fight.

Saturday afternoon, the wind howled like hell. I'm talking 18 knots with gusts over 30. Even with the wind coming pretty close to right down the pipe, that's a log of gust factor, especially considering that I hadn't flown the C-182 since last October or so. And I'm a pretty typical non-primarily-182 driver inasmuch as it's a very nose-heavy airplane that likes to sink quickly and I live in fear of whacking the nosewheel.

I have no problem with the G1000. I just don't like seeing the nosewheel strut come through it.

I arrived early and preflighted the airplane like I was buying it. The wind howled around the hangar. Badly enough that I feared opening the hangar door and badly enough that I had a hard time being understood on the phone by my flight release officer because of the noise of all that sheet metal that wanted to depart the tee hangar.

But around 6:30, it magically calmed down to a steady 18 knots right down the runway. Rod arrived, I got my flight release, we stomped the ramp (a very abbreviated ritual along the lines of the Haka - you had to be there) and we launched about an hour before sunset.

We flew up to Yale, Michigan located my high school buddy's place, descended to about 1,600 MSL, and did a mock photo mission over it. Flying at 90 KIAS in a 45-degree bank that low would have bothered me a lot just a year ago. But, after NESA MAS and flying as much tailwheel and acro as I have, it seemed really natural. And the C-182 is a really stable platform for those kinds of maneuvers. You can almost roll in and fly the maneuver on trim alone.

Takeoffs, as they say, are optional. Landings, as they also say, are mandatory. Aviation, unlike maritime pursuits, has a perfect safety record. We've never left one up there.

We went to St. Clair County Airport (KPHN), whose Runway 28 was within 20 degrees of a 15-knot steady wind. Rod had spent a lot of time there in his youth as a line guy and student pilot, so it was a bit of a trip down memory lane for him. I was reluctant to face my C-182 demons more than 40 nm from the airplane's home base in case I yard-saled it across the TDZ. And I began by mistaking Runway 22 for Runway 28.

But I got her headed in the right direction (without entering Canadian airspace in the process) and turned a very nonstandard entry into a very stabilized approach. 70 over the numbers, then kissed it down. I taxied back and got another trip around the patch, this time getting it a little flat, but serviceable and most of the parts stayed in formation with the rest of the airframe.

Rod is getting ready to become a CFI. And the CFI manner is beginning to creep into his right-seat personality. I pointed out a couple of the things that he said or did and made that comment. He was a little taken aback, but admitted it. I assured him that there were no violations of Wheaton's Law involved. In fact, it's very cool to see one's friends constantly evolving and challenging themselves.

Additionally, Rod is going to be a great instructor. He's already a very precise and disciplined pilot. But he also has an excellent way of inspiring confidence and channeling knowledge without being imperious about it. As someone who has watched new student pilot starts fall off and student pilot completions plummet, it would be important to me that Rod become a CFi regardless of whether he was one of my bros. But having him as one of my bros as well? Bonus!

To be sure, Rod gave no "instruction" per se in the aircraft. He's not a CFI. And, even if he were, he's not authorized by CAP to give instruction in CAP birds. (Yet.) We even briefed our roles standing at the nose of the aircraft before leaving. As PIC, I told him that input was welcome. And expected. But I was PIC and any yard sale that I laid out on a runway was mine and mine alone. A good way to brief almost any flight, in fact.

We departed St. Clair and pointed the airplane at Ray Community Airport (57D). I have some plans for things this summer at Ray and I wanted to show the airport to Rod. Ray is the prettiest airport to which I have ever personally been. And Runway at Ray 9/27 is just under 2,500 feet, which I had just proved was a distance within which I could get a C-182T down and stopped. But it was a little dark to actually see anything there and I was reluctant to put my C-182 skills to the test on a shorter runway in the dark.

So back to Pontiac. We got the straight-in approach to Runway 27R. No excuses. I had the airspeed and configuration dialed in from five miles out. the only issue was that it was dark. I mean "duckin' fark." It was less than an hour after sunset, but not a lot less.

Last notch of flaps at a half mile. Yeah, a half mile is further than I could glide with the barn doors hanging out, but a stable approach coming over the fence was more important in this case with this pilot in this airplane than the much-lesser chance of being screwed by an engine failure on short final.

Airspeed 75 KIAS over the fence. 70 KIAS over the numbers. I had my attention way over the nose and off to the side. Rod was looking directly out the side at the ground.

He said "flare."

It was a little earlier than I expected to flare. But I had five more knots of airspeed than I really needed and lots of power available. And Rod has lots of experience in the C-182. All of the input funneled through that high-speed pachinko machine that I've built in my head. I made the decision as PIC to accept the suggestion from my PNF and flare.

I flared. A moment or two of feeling the sink and beginning to think about pushing in the power. Then "doink." Mains down. Yoke in my chest. Nosewheel down. Nice! Let her roll to Kilo and then taxi to Royal for gas.

I think that the landing would have come out safe either way. My way might have been flatter, but would likely have been okay. In any case, it's good to have two sets of eyes and two brains focused on the issue. And it's one of the most special things in all of aviation to have a PNF next to you that you know well and whose thoughts will accelerate through your pachinko machine and get quickly to the place where you make the right decisions.

We hit the Pontiac pilot watering hole (the Shark Club) for beers and dinner after. I think it bothered Rod slightly that I had noticed CFI noises coming out of him on the flight and he was concered that it had been bothersome and launched into a discussion that was part apology.

I cut him off. "Dude, you had me at 'Flare.'"

Laughter, beer, food, and pilot talk, then the departure - me for home and and he for his family in Clawson. I a slightly better pilot. He with a little more time in the right seat trying out the view from there and really thinking about what it's going to be like when he adds the rating and starts flying with people who need his counsel more than I do.

All epic. In a smaller way than Dick-Collins-ing through the yellow IMC over Chicagoland at 2:00 a.m. But in an important way nevertheless.

Up aircrew! Huah!

Meet Steve Jones, your new 'X Factor' co-host

Let's get this out of the way immediately: No, Steve Jones of the Sex Pistols is not the new co-host of Fox's "The X Factor."

While that would've been totally awesome, we're sure the 34-year-old Welshman of the same name will do a bang up job alongside ex-Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger. Even if he can't play guitar to "Anarchy in the U.K."

So who is the guy?

According to a press release from Fox, Jones is a native of Rhondda, Glamorgan, Wales who traded up from a modeling career to TV hosting gigs in the U.K.:

Jones' credits include the late-night series "Transmission," the marathon music show "Carling Live 24," seven years on the incredibly popular children's weekend morning entertainment show "T4," two installments of "Let's Dance for Comic Relief" and the special "Guinness World Records Smashed!" He will next be seen [in the U.K.] hosting "Drop Zone," "Wedding Crashers" and "101 Ways to Leave a Gameshow," as well as teaming with his brothers in "Jones Brothers Amazon Adventure."

Well alrighty then.

Free e cards online

If you want to express your love and care for someone special in your life, it does not take you a lot to do so. Now you can do that easier with those free e cards online. Free greeting cards online doesn't cost you a single penny, so all you have to do is search for the perfect card. There are many websites where you can find electronic cards and many of them offer cards for free. These e cards will help you make an impression. At first sight you might find it a little tough work and you will feel overwhelmed because of so many choices you have online. Therefore, it's very important for you to have in mind what you are looking for to make your job easier. You must know the reason why you are sending an e card. Many people usually send cards on special occasions like birthdays, anniversaries, graduation and holidays: Christmas, Valentine's Day, Easter, etc. If you know the occasion you want to send an e card, your search will be much easier.

Another thing you have to consider is the type of message you want to convey. Many free e cards online have messages already written on them. 'Dancing With the Stars' Recap: Week Seven Elimination

Finally! The last of the dead weight has been dropped from 'Dancing With the Stars.' It was the elimination I had been salivating over for weeks, because now the competition is really on.

During Monday night's performances, the leaderboard got shaken up once again, with first-time front-runner Romeo plummeting all the way to the bottom and Ralph Macchio shooting from the bottom to the top for the third time. All the contestants had to perform two routines -- an individual dance and a group number -- with the two scores being combined.

Dragging the bottom of the leaderboard alongside Romeo was Kirstie Alley, who, even though she suffered a fall and lost a shoe in past weeks, had yet to find herself in serious jeopardy of elimination until she raked in her lowest scores to date. Meanwhile, aspiring lap-dancer Kendra Wilkinson somehow managed to pull in a better score, albeit by just one point. Week after week she skirted elimination when she should have been the one to go, seemingly becoming this season's version of Bristol Palin.

But I can finally thank the 'Dancing' gods -- and voters -- for kicking Kendra to the much-deserved curb this week. While she danced surprisingly well in week one, she never really got any better. Once she found her niche -- skimpy outfits and bouncing her "assets" -- she just kept doing the same thing over and over. For some reason, the judges always ate it up and scored her way higher than she deserved. And then there was her attitude ...

Going into this season of 'DWTS,' I was neutral on Kendra. I wasn't a fan of 'The Girls Next Door' or her current self-titled reality show, but I thought she was entertainingly cartoonish with her bubbly Elmer Fudd-sounding laugh. But clearly I either hadn't been paying enough attention or her previous reality TV appearances have done some polishing when it comes to her personality. She started to lose my respect the week she mouthed off to the judges, and continued her downward spiral with her foul mouth, farting and general obsession with proving she has an aversion to anything "elegant."

Now it's time to focus on who might make it to the finals. With Kirstie and Chelsea Kane rounding out the bottom three this week, it's going to get harder and harder to guess who will go in the next couple of eliminations leading up to the grand finale.

While Kirstie has had her share of mishaps and might seem like she should be the next casualty, she has way more charisma and dancing ability than someone like Kendra could ever dream of. If she can just stay focused, she might actually stand a chance of being in the finals. But next week the stars must once again master two dances, which could prove difficult for her. While she appears to be a fan favorite, there might very well be a point where they turn on her because she's made one mistake too many. (Unlike the rest of the remaining contestants, she has yet to top the leaderboard.)

As for Chelsea, it was the second time she's been in the bottom two. Both times she and partner Mark Ballas have wound up there after "risky" dances -- this week's futuristic "biker chick" paso doble and week four's 'Harry Potter'-themed performance. Now, whether their bottom-dwelling status was decided by an actual lack of votes from viewers or the show's producers remains to be seen, as host Tom Bergeron usually points out that the bottom two are not necessarily who's really in jeopardy.

It's interesting to note that neither Romeo nor Hines Ward have ever been in the bottom three on elimination night, which could be a sign that they're destined for the finals. But it's literally anybody's game right now, as there's still no real front-runner -- although Hines and Ralph are in a dead heat when it comes to topping the leaderboard the most.

So, good riddance, I say! (Funny that it was her first stab at elegance with a fully-clothed, rather traditional tango that got her voted off ... fickle fans, indeed.)

Father's Day

Father's Day is a widely known celebration honoring fathers and celebrating fatherhood, paternal bonds, and the influence of fathers in society.

Father's Day is a celebration of fathers inaugurated in the early twentieth century to complement Mother's Day in celebrating fatherhood and male parenting. It is also celebrated to honor and commemorate our forefathers. Father's Day is celebrated on a variety of dates worldwide and typically involves gift-giving, special dinners to fathers, and family-oriented activities.

Two years later on June 19, 1910, an independently-invented Father's Day observance was celebrated through the efforts of Sonora Smart Dodd of Spokane, Washington. After listening to a church sermon at Spokane's Central Methodist Episcopal Church in 1909 about the newly recognized Mother's Day, Dodd felt strongly that fatherhood needed recognition, as well.1 She wanted a celebration that honored fathers like her own father, William Smart, a Civil War veteran who was left to raise his family alone when his wife died giving birth to their sixth child when Sonora was 16 years old.2

The following year with the assistance of Reverend Dr. Conrad Bluhm, her pastor at Old Centenary Presbyterian Church (now Knox Presbyterian Church), Sonora took the idea to the Spokane YMCA. The Spokane YMCA, along with the Ministerial Alliance, endorsed Dodds idea and helped it spread by celebrating the first Fathers Day in 1910. Sonora suggested her fathers birthday, June 5, be established as the day to honor all Fathers. However, the pastors wanted more time to prepare, so on June 19, 1910, young members of the YMCA went to church wearing roses: a red rose to honor a living father, and a white rose to honor a deceased one.2 Dodd traveled through the city in a horse-drawn carriage, carrying gifts to shut-in fathers confined indoors by illness.2

Facebook 'Pay' Users to Click Ads

CALIFORNIA - Facebook reportedly will provide benefits to users who click on certain ads on credit, which can be exchanged for the purchase of products from up Deals, brand-new social networking service that resembles Groupon.

Even so, incentives or benefits granted are not large. Mashable launch on Friday (05/06/2011), each valued advertising credits having a value equal to 10 cents.

Ads that offer these benefits are mostly video games. Zynga, Crowdstar and Digital Choice are some game developers that participate in this program.

The incentive is one of the solutions up to overcome the low average users who click on ads on these sites. This move also sparked the most popular social networking after they developed a credit program that allows users to purchase tangible products as advertised on Facebook Deals.

Facebook is now working with Sharethrough, SocialVibe, Epic Media and SipersonicAds to optimize the program. They also took TrialPay, which will provide analysis of the incentive program.

Are video games a form of art? Whatever your views are, the Smithsonian American Art Museum has released a list of titles to be showcased in its exhibition "The Art of Video Games"--and the choices are bound to fuel debate.

The retrospective show is set to run from March 16 through September 30, 2012, and will feature blockbuster games such as Donkey Kong, Super Mario Brothers, SimCity, The Legend of Zelda, Metal Gear Solid 2, and Halo 2, as well as lesser-known titles. See the full list here (PDF).

Visitors to the museum in Washington, D.C. will get to play Pac-Man, Super Mario Brothers, The Secret of Monkey Island, Myst, and World of Warcraft as part of the display.

From mid-February to mid-April, voters picked 80 games from a pool of 240 candidates divided into 5 eras, 20 gaming systems, and 4 genres spanning nearly 40 years. The earliest is Combat, released in 1977 for the Atari 2600.

Notable omissions are sports and simulator games, as well as early-generation games such as Spacewar and Pong.

There are few first-person shooters; Doom II is included as an entry in the DOS/Windows "action" genre in the late 1990s "transition" era.

While the show will have large screenshot samples of long-gone games from the vaults like The Bard's Tale III: Thief of Fate, and Spy vs Spy, both of which I spent hours playing, there will be no Gran Turismo 5, Call of Duty (though it was nominated), Tekken, FIFA, Madden NFL, or even Guitar Hero.

Audi manage that? - Tycoon totals R8

Following his miraculous escape last weekend when he wrecked a R2-million supercar outside Mthatha in the Eastern Cape, controversial businessman Gayton McKenzie already has his eyes on a multi-million rand Maybach limousine.

McKenzie, the chairman of Kenny Kunene's growing nightclub empire ZAR, was travelling in a convoy of flashy cars on the R61 to Ngcobo when his white Audi R8 Spyder flew off the road, crashed through a fence and came to a stop in a field.

In the process, the vehicle knocked down an Eskom power pylon, cutting electricity to parts of Ngcobo.

In the car with him was former Miss SA Teen Moloko McKenzie, who was knocked unconscious.

Thankfully McKenzie managed to free himself from the totalled sports car, pulled Moloko free of the seat and carried her to safety.

McKenzie, a former prisoner, his business partner Kunene and others were returning to Gauteng after attending the wedding of President Jacob Zuma's daughter Dudu and businessman Lonwabo Sambudla over the Easter weekend

The accident was witnessed by several in the convoy, and Kunene was following the R8 in his black Lamborghini convertible.

"We're all just glad that Gayton is okay. It was absolutely horrifying but the important thing is that he is okay," said Kunene.

"He has hurt his leg really badly and cannot drive at the moment. So after he attends meetings he goes straight home to relax because he needs to recover," said Kunene.

"Gayton was simply happy to be alive," added Kunene. -Saturday Star

Jamie Oliver and Better Homes and Gardens To Collaborate on Television

Meredith magazines has been looking to increase its presence on television with a new partnership between its flagship magazine Better Homes and Gardens and British celebrity chef Jamie Oliver.

Adweek reports that the first collaboration effort will involve an episode of “Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution” on ABC, the surprisingly controversial show in which Oliver comes to America and tries to get us to stop eating fast food and getting fat, which we as a country are wont to do. Thank god for the British! On the May 10th episode of Oliver’s show, BHG deputy garden editor Eric Liskey will help plant a (presumably edible) garden at a Los Angeles high school. The experience is also documented in the April issue of the magazine and in its new digital iPad edition.

Moving into television can be a smart move for magazines, such as Food & Wine‘s collaboration with Bravo’s hit show “Top Chef.” However, Adweek points out that BHG might have chosen a slightly more successful show: Oliver’s show is behind “NCIS” on CBS, “Glee” on Fox, and “The Biggest Loser” on NBC in ratings.
