Where Does This Leave Berbatov?

I have made no secret of my admiration for Dimitar Berbatov in his three seasons at the club. He’s a classy player who is a joy to watch on the ball. After spending the first two seasons not scoring as many goals as a £30m striker should, he was awarded with the Premier League golden boot this season and, according to Opta, scored more winning goals than any player in the league.

Whilst Wayne Rooney, the player who carried us the season before, was handing in a transfer request and not scoring, Berbatov was the player pushing us on, along with Nani. At the end of January, Berbatov had scored more hattricks for United than Rooney had goals. Without his contribution, we would not have lifted than 19th title last weekend.

Over the last few months of the season, Berba lost his place in the starting line-up to Chicharito. Rooney turned his season around and our new Mexican striker scored too regularly to leave out. Still, come the end of the season, after lifting the trophy, the Bulgarian spoke exactly like you would like a United player to.

“I will go nowhere,” he said. “Now I am part of United’s 19th title and I want to be part of the 20th, that’s my plan. I am the happiest man in the team because I’m a champion and top goalscorer in the league. To win 19 titles is a fantastic achievement.”

Ruud van Nistelrooy and Carlos Tevez wouldn’t sit on our bench, but here we have a player, the top scorer in the league no less, who claims he is the happiest man in the team, despite losing his place in the first XI, because United have won the league and he has contributed to that.

Ahead of last night’s Champions League final, we all knew that if Ferguson was going to play two strikers from the start, Berbatov wasn’t going to be one of them. He would start on the bench and the question was whether Michael Owen would join him or not. There won’t have been any United fans who had even considered that Berba would not make the bench.

I can’t imagine his shock and devastation upon learning that, if United were to win the European Cup, he would not be picking up a medal. He has played almost three times as many games as Owen this season, massively contributing to our 19th title, yet the manager showed no appreciation of that last night. My loyalty will always be with the manager over any player, including Giggs, Scholes or anyone else. However, I can’t ignore how cruel Ferguson was last night and how disrespectful he was towards a player who helped him knock Liverpool off their perch.

Some fans have criticised Berbatov for not joining the likes of John O’Shea in the stands to watch the game. I partially agree with this. You like to see the players putting on a United front and supporting each other, regardless of what has happened to them. However, I can’t entirely agree with that stance in this situation. We can’t possibly imagine how Berba felt when the manager told him he wouldn’t be on the bench and with next to no time to adjust to this shock, it’s not a massive surprise he didn’t come out of the dressing room.

“Some players even cry now in the dressing room – Bryan Robson never used to cry,” Ferguson said earlier this season. Was Berbatov sat in the dressing room crying, even just initially? I wouldn’t bet again it. This was probably his last opportunity to play in European Cup final and his manager didn’t even fancy him enough to put him on the bench.

After the game, the manager confessed that it caused him “heartache” to leave Berba out but insisted the player hadn’t stormed off, but was in the dressing room.

“For Berbatov it was a difficult decision,” said Ferguson. “Picking my team I found easy, but picking my subs I found very difficult. I tended to overload the midfield positions because I thought that was the position that was most important. I gambled with just one defender to allow me to get as many options in midfield and wide positions. It was a choice between Michael Owen and Dimitar Berbatov and if you are looking for someone to nick a goal in the last few minutes you want Owen’s experience.”

Now, had Owen been brought on for the final ten minutes, with United 3-1 down and in desperate need of a goal, I still wouldn’t agree with the manager’s decision, but would have to respect it. The fact that Owen didn’t get brought on, despite United only making two substitutions, beggars belief. What was the point? Why cause our top scorer so much hurt and disappointment for the sake of Owen being an unused sub?

Berba did not return with the team to Manchester today, so we’ll learn more about his future tomorrow when the players parade the league trophy. You imagine that if he hasn’t made his own way back up to Manchester by then, there’s a very strong possibility he is off. Given that he is 30 and in the last year of his contract, we wouldn’t be able recoup a great deal on the £30m we spent on him, even as the league’s top scorer, but now a club could get him for next to nothing.

I’d love for him to stay at the club because he’s an incredibly talented player and he has a fantastic attitude. He had the opportunity to double his money at City, but he didn’t even meet with them, knowing that a meeting alone would put pressure on United to offer him more money. He wants to play for this football club, he wants to play his part in our success, and when the game is inundated with mercenaries, it’s refreshing to see someone whose sole motivation isn’t money.

However, I wouldn’t begrudge him wanting to leave now. The manager has let him know exactly how little he values him, so what choice does he have? Can he really play for a club where he doesn’t even get in the squad for a final when he’s the club and league’s top scorer?

With money tight and more pressing replacements needed, it’s probably reasonable to assume that if Berbatov leaves, Ferguson will use Danny Welbeck as his replacement. Is that the kind of move other top clubs around Europe would make?

Desperately disappointed for Berbatov but I’m more concerned about the consequences this may have for the club. Rooney and Chicharito have been more or less injury free this season, luckily, but we have no guarantees of that next season, and then what?

This is an incredibly and confusing frustrating situation. I can’t help but think Berba has to leave now, as much it pains me to say it. But, as always, in the manager we trust.

Ole: Ferguson Deserved 1999

“I look at that picture and I remember exactly what I was thinking,” he said. “‘You deserve this, after everything you’ve done for the club’. The only thing I could think about was how much Ferguson deserved this.”

Solskjaer has also reflected on how money has never been his motivator, rather the fear of disappointing.

“There are a lot of things I don’t have to do any more, I’ve got money enough to lie on the beach and relax for the rest of my life, but that would get boring pretty quickly,” he continued. “No, money does nothing for the inner drive. Money has made me comfortable in the sense that that part of my life is taken care of. But it’s never driven me. It’s the fear of disappointing myself that has driven me. Disappointing those around me. And Ferguson. The worst thing I knew was to disappoint Ferguson.”

Rio: I Love Being A Part Of Success And History At United

Rio Ferdinand has today revealed that when he first joined Manchester United in 2002, he was keen to get his name in to our history books.

Nine years and nine trophies later, Rio is happy with his contribution but isn’t finished yet.

“When I first came to United all I thought about was making sure I etched myself a little bit within the history of the club and to do that meant winning trophies,” Ferdinand said. “I have been fortunate enough to be part of squads that have won trophies. You just really enjoy those moments. To be part of a club with such great history and be part of a successful team within that history is the icing on the cake.”

United at Ewood Park Party

Manchester United finally ensure himself as a champion of Premier League 2010/2011 season, after holding Blackburn Rovers 1-1 at Ewood Park on Saturday (14/05/2011) night. United grabbed the crown champions for the 19th time, well beyond the incision Liverpool who pocketed 18 title.

Yes, United did just need a draw in the 37th game this weekend. No wonder the coach Sir Alex Ferguson chose as goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak, and parked the veteran goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar, who will retire with the end of this season.

Of course, no longer willing manipulated Blackburn United, like when slaughtered 7-1 at Old Trafford at the first meeting this season, precisely on November 27, 2010. The team also made by Steve Kean wants to keep a record stall, which predict a new one defeat in 11 Premier League home games.

Although the target one point, United still launch attacks since the beginning of the game. Golden opportunities created by Luis Nani premiere at minute 4, when his shot hit the goalpost Blackburn who escorted Paul Robinson.

Meanwhile, the camp host was not without a fight. Recorded in minute 11, Christopher Samba had a chance when the ball bounce towards him. Unfortunately, the final settlement from the Republic of Congo defender is far from perfect.

Disastrous for United's starting to look at minute 19. Grenada national origin attacker Blackburn, Jason Roberts to test Kuszczak and the goalkeeper hesitated menghalaunya. Luckily, the team captain of United's Nemanja Vidic came as a savior.

But what happened one minute later? This time, United's goalkeeper could not be saved. Starting from a Brett Emerton cross kick from the right wing is capable pushed over Kuszczak. Actually, the ball has left the pitch but the referee failed to give a kick in United's goalkeeper. Until finally, dilambungkan ball back toward Emerton who has swiftly in front of goal. Australia midfielder struck the ball and lodged into the right corner of goalkeeper Kuszczak. Blackburn 1-0 earlier opening advantage.

Almost 20 minutes passed without any dangerous chances from both teams. Entering the minute 40, Kuszczak again make the Red Devils camp almost conceded. Kuszczak could not throw the ball perfectly in front of David Hoillet, but still not lucky because the ball towards goal.

Score 1-0 second half lead. Both Blackburn and United did not make a substitution. It was only at 62 minutes, Sir Alex Ferguson to replace Paul Scholes enter Fabio da Silva. Practical, United turned into a 3-5-2 formation.

Three minutes later, Blackburn got a golden opportunity. Starting Emerton cross, which was welcomed Martin Olsson in the convoy Antonio Valencia. Swedish defender had the ball, but it is unfortunate hit the pole right goal United.

Match remaining 20 minutes. Drama ensued in the 70th minute when Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez to penetrate into the Blackburn box defense, then stopped because hadangan Robinson's footsteps. Referee Phil Dowd consulting with his linesman before deciding United's got a gift penalty.

As a result, Wayne Rooney is believed to be the executioner and successful change things for the 1-1. Bomber England international cleverly directing the ball into the left corner, where Robinson moving in the opposite direction.

Red Devils on the verge of winning. No wonder the row behind United's player looks relaxed hold the ball in their territory. Time when the game went by without any dangerous chances. Until finally, the referee blew the long whistle of United's lead the entire crew came out to the middle of the field.

They also partied to celebrate the success of the champion crown last season, Chelsea, as well as adding to the 19 th title. United's increasingly solid at the top of the standings with a score 77 points, and still leaves pemungkas one match against Blackpool at Old Trafford, on 22 May before facing Barcelona in the Champions League final at Wembley Stadium, London, a week later. Will the United successfully marry the two prestigious titles in this season?

The composition of players:
Blackburn: Robinson, Salgado, Samba, Phil Jones, Givet, Emerton, Jermaine Jones, Nzonzi, Olsson, Hoilett, Roberts. Subs: Bunn, Dunn, Kalinic, Pedersen, Andrews, Santa Cruz, Mwaruwari.

MAN UTD: Kuszczak, Fabio Da Silva, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evans, Valencia, Giggs, Carrick, Nani, Rooney, Hernandez. Subs: Amos, Evra, Owen, Anderson, Berbatov, Smalling, Scholes

Agent: Kiko Disappointed By Loan Spell

Federico Macheda’s agent, Giovanni Bia, has conceded that the player’s loan spell has been an unsuccessful one due to the pressure he was under.

When he joined the club on loan at the beginning of the year they were 8th, however, they have felt the departure of Antonio Cassano, who left for AC Milan a month before Kiko’s arrival. Cassano had scored 5 goals in 9 games before leaving and it appears as though our striker hasn’t coped well in trying to fill the former Real Madrid player’s boots.

Sampdoria are now 18th and 2 points away from safety.

“He played well at the start, then he was perhaps caught up in the vortex for survival,” he said. “If even the older players couldn’t raise Sampdoria then a 20-year-old boy certainly wasn’t going to be able to do that. There is too much pressure and criticism in the Italian game and I think the player himself has been left disappointed by all of it. Although he settled well into the city, perhaps he rushed his return to Italy given that the game has different pressures here than in England.”

Kiko’s agent hasn’t ruled out the possibility of the player staying in Italy next season though.

“I don’t know what will happen with Macheda next season, I’ll have to talk to Manchester United,” Bia added. “Staying at Sampdoria could turn out to be a useful experience for him, even if they were playing in Serie B next term. However, it’s too early to say at the minute.”

PICTURE: Chelsea Put Winners’ Badge On Next Season’s Shirt

Chelsea FC’s official pictures for next season’s kit include players posing with gold badges on their shirt. The gold badges are specially reserved for the champions, whilst every other team wears white Premier League badges.

After beating Chelsea 2-1 at Old Trafford today, United are just one point away from earning that gold badge!

Someone better tell their kitman…

VIEW FROM THE ENEMY: Chelsea Fan On Torres, Meltdown and Webb

The biggest game of the season is upon us, so it only seems right that I get Den from The Chelsea Blog to answer some questions for us.

Scott the Red: Six months ago, Chelsea were six points clear of United. Are you proud of your current position after spending some time 5th in the league or frustrated your team threw away the lead in the first place?

Chelsea Den: Where you are in the table that early in the season counts for nothing really. We had a blistering start, which is just as well really or we could be in real trouble now. As it is, from falling 15 points behind United, when points really matter we’ve managed to get into the position where we’re now just 3 behind. Of course I’d have preferred us not to play like muppets for months on end mid-season but credit to the lads for not bending over and giving it to United on a plate like Arsenal.

STR: Are you surprised by Chelsea’s meltdown earlier in the season?

CD: Yes and no. We did have a very strong start to the season but in the few games before the true meltdown started, the signs were already there. That poor form creeping in came just ahead of Wilkins’ departure, which was ultimately the reason given in the press for our woeful form. Maybe some of the players bought into that and excused themselves for not putting in the effort but with Drogba suffering some pretty long-term effects from his bout of malaria, Lampard struggling to comeback from his injury and Essien morphing into a very un-Essien like player, we just didn’t have anything going for us.

STR: Talking more recently, once the meltdown was over, United had it fairly easy against you in the Champions League. Do you think the emotion of it all got to Terry and co.?

CD: No, but I think not getting a penalty against you in the first leg might. Who knows where their heads were over those two games? I don’t really have an explanation for it but surely if they were so desperate to atone for Moscow they’d have put in a bit more effort when they had the chance?

STR: After beating you, we had even easier games against Schalke, before booking our place in the European Cup final for the third time in three years. Do you think United can beat Barcelona in the final?

CD: Depends whether you mean in a fist-fight or football? Unfortunately I’d have to say they probably can, whether they will or not is another matter. As we saw against Real, Barca can really get under your skin, break the play up with the odd Platoon audition here and there, then turn on the style for a split second to wrap up a game.

STR: Chelsea keep getting quite close but never quite making it. Do you think you will ever win the Champions League?

CD: In my lifetime? Who knows? The momentum was there in 2008 and if ever we could do it, I thought that was the chance. Now I try not to concentrate on what we can and can’t do in the Champions League because I’d lose the will to live.

STR: Roman Abramovich has spent £100m to improve the team this season and half of that went on Fernando Torres. What a waste of money?

You reckon? Maybe he hasn’t had the immediate impact Chelsea had hoped for in terms of goals but if nothing else, his signing has seen a turnaround in Drogba’s form and that certainly hasn’t done us any harm. Maybe signing a player like Torres in January, when we’ve already got Drogba wasn’t the best idea in terms of getting value for money but I think we’ll see his true value next season. Besides, if he comes on and scores the winner Sunday, he’d be worth every penny.

STR: I reckon one goal is a shoddy return for a £50m player, certainly, and you don’t spend that amount of money to improve the form of someone else. However, Torres scored two goals against Chelsea in Liverpool 2-0 win earlier in the season. If we win the league by 3 or less points the Chelsea fans won’t resent him for helping us win the title, will they?

CD: I think they’d have to be clutching at straws if they did. If United win the title it’ll be because we were shit for months, not just one game.

STR: I’ll certainly be thanking him on here, as you could imagine. Anyway, in our last league meeting, your players and manager admitted that Chelsea shouldn’t have had a penalty and Luiz should have been sent off. Are you confident that officials will help you beat us again?

CD: Bearing in mind the FA have decided it’s United’s turn to be allocated the twelfth man this time, confidence isn’t a word I’d use going into this game.

STR: You’re surely not talking about the ref who helped Chelsea win the FA Cup last season are you? I’m sure Webb would be offended to see his work has gone unappreciated by your fans! As usual, thanks for taking the time to talk to us.

Quick Reactions To Victory Over Everton

1. We would have taken any three points today. To get them on the back of a good performance and well worked goal is very nice. Everton were resilient and it was becoming a worry whether we’d be able to break them down, but we kept our nerve, passed the ball around well and were patient.
2. Chicharito, I love you. What a début season. Just when you think it can’t get much better for him, he pops up with a late winner like that. After blocking Nani’s on target shot with his arse in the first half, you wondered whether it was going to be his day. But his movement was great all game, always on the shoulder of the last man and had a good couple of efforts saved by Tim Howard. After picking up a yellow card for wasting so much time, I imagine he wished he just got on with it when Chicharito put us 1-0 up with just over 5 minutes left. Great header, well done lad.
3. Anderson deserves credit for his performance after playing through some brilliant balls for our forward men. He’s been here years so it’s weird not to have a conclusive opinion on him. Injuries have delayed his progress and at times he can be very frustrating. Yesterday he did well, which is all the more worthy of praise when you consider who his midfield partner was. It was a little disconcerting to see Jack Rodwell’s performance though, in light of the likelihood of him becoming a United player. He should have bossed the centre of the park yesterday but he was anonymous. Just back from injury so maybe we’ll let him off. And of course, I won’t complain if an opponent has a bad day against us but it did come as a surprise.
4. Whilst not the biggest fan of football clichés, I’m glad we’re getting to hear “he’s like a new signing” banded about. Antonio Valencia has been great since returning from injury and totally superseded my expectations. To suffer a broken ankle, you had to wonder whether he was going to come back at all this season. You had to wonder when he did come back, whether he would be the same player. So to have him back for the last three months of the season, playing as well as he is doing, is brilliant. I love how strong he is and how that doesn’t compromise his speed. I love how he runs at players and is so often successful at beating them. One of my favourite moments of the games was when he shrugged off Leighton Baines with ease when charging in to the box. In the lead up to the goal, it was him that won the ball back for United, before crossing to Chicharito at the back post. When a looking at a title that could go down to the wire, Valencia is making a big difference for us.
5. Fergie used his substitutions well and they made a big impact. I’m not entirely sure I agree with resting players at this season in the season, particularly against a side as strong as Everton, but he pulled it off. Michael Owen’s movement gave them a head ache at the back, now having to track his runs as well as Hernandez’s. Patrice Evra was on for just half an hour but it was one of his better half hours of the season. We looked far more likely to score with him running in to the box and pulling the ball across the face of goal. Ryan Giggs provided a greater threat too and his substitution allowed for a more central role for Wayne Rooney, who maturely got on with the task in hand for the last ten minutes or so. He came very deep and helped keep possession as we waited for time to run out.

What Do Portsmouth Fans Think Of De Laet?

Ritchie de Laet joined Portsmouth on loan in January, after already playing for Preston and Sheffield United on loan this season.

This week he has claimed that he’s really happy with the progress he’s made over the last few months on the south coast.

“This must be my best-ever season because I am playing that many games,” he said. “I’ve been playing here for 18 games in a row now and I’m enjoying it. I need the experience to get into that first-team squad of Manchester United, that is my plan. Portsmouth is giving that to me. I have a lot of big players around me that help me day in, day out in training sessions and in games and that has really benefited me. Being in the Championship, it’s fast and it’s hard for 90 minutes so it’s about trying to keep calm on the ball and when the pressure is on you. I feel I am more comfortable now. The confidence is there so that’s good for me as well. I just try to do my best every game. I am improving all the time and this season has been the best season for me.”

It’s good to see he is full of confidence but how do Portsmouth fans rate his performances?

Mark Allaway from The Offside Portsmouth:

Ritchie De Laet has been one of our many loanee defenders this season and has near enough made the right back slot his own. He’s played all the 18 games we’ve had him on loan for and he’s blended into the Pompey style well by getting forward from the full-back slot. He has made it very clear in the press that he wants his long-term future to be at United but would be willing to come back on loan next year and we’d love to have him back.

Strengths – De Laet is a good defender, but its the blend of defence and attack that brings out the best in him. Though he may not have scored it’s his general contribution to attacks that have seen him go down well with the Fratton Park faithful.

Weaknesses – I certainly wouldn’t say De Laet has been the best defensively of our players this season – but many people believe that is Ricardo Rocha and look what he’s done for us lately… I think many of De Laet’s defensive lapses are through inexperience and he’ll only get better.

Best moment – Hard to pick an outstanding moment but I would go for Ipswich away back in February. During our winning run, confidence was high and we were getting consecutive cleansheets, and Ritchie was a part of that. He also aided the attack and allowed the likes of David Cotterill and Jonathan Hogg to break forward from midfield and run out 2-0 winners.

Potential – Watching the likes of Rafael and Fabio I think De Laet can be a Manchester United full-back of the future based on what he’s shown at Pompey. For a recent signing he is also showing refreshing loyalty and ambition with United, at times he has said he feels ready to play at Old Trafford right now!

Fratton Faithful:

Ritchie has come into the side and done very well. He offers pace going forward and combines well with players when attacking from the wing. He has also shown that he has a cool head when defending, opting to pass the ball out of play or let it roll out for a goal kick instead of hoofing it out of play or straight back to the opposition.

I’m not sure if he’ll ever be good enough to become a regular for United as his defensive qualities aren’t what is required for a top Premier League team and he’s not as quick as Rafael either. He could probably do a job in the top division, though, and I’d certainly like to see him back at Fratton Park next year if the loan option is available again.

Harry Redknapp: Jose Mourinho Will Handle Red Devils

Harry Redknapp, Tottenham coach, said he was very confident Jose Mourinho would train Manchester United in the future.

"Of all the managers I faced this season, only one of which is above average, that is Jose Mourinho," said Redknapp told The Sun.

"Some people call it Marmite coach of Real Madrid manager. That's right. You can hate and love it.

Marmite is a nutritious food that much favored in England, but also much hated.

According to Redknapp, he dalah people who can not but admire him. Especially, when Mourinho's Chelsea deal.

"I believe in the end it was he who most deserve to replace Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford,"said Redknapp.

Mourinho is no different than Sir Alex When I was young. The Portuguese coach was not showing signs of losing touch of his best, and always able to show his enthusiasm.

Ferguson was appointed to handle Manchester United in 1986, and became the most successful manager in the history of the Red Devils.

Redknapp also said that Mourinho is one of several coaches who have an ego, and self keprcayaan high, able to replace Sir Alex.

"True, Jose Mourinho arrogant. Is it wrong," said Redknapp.

Nemanja Vidic, Manchester United Forever In

Defender Nemanja Vidic wants to spend his career at Manchester United. The Red Devils captain was also denied when he wanted to leave Old Trafford. Stressed that the news is simply not true.

Vidic immediately skyrocketed since joining United in 2006. He was confirmed as one of Europe's best defender. No wonder when Vidic and then targeted by top European clubs. Real Madrid's so-called desire to memboyongnya. In fact, the defender was 29 had just signed a long-term contract with United.

However, Vidic assert will not leave United. He wanted to stay until retirement.

"I wish I could spend my career here at United. I did hear speculation my departure last year. But I know what I want. I also wanted to show commitment to the club," he said.

"From my own mouth never came out to go. I am happy here and want to show my love on the field," he explained.

"Over the years I give the best for this club. Because it is not true when I would go. Of course, I am having a difficult time and also happy here. But, I always give the best 100 percent. Moreover, I now hold the tire captain. There is a huge responsibility as captain, "says Vidic
